When I first thought about having Botox I could not find anywhere in Middleton/Schull that I wanted to have a treatment. I was so nervous, and I didn't know what to expect that I actually put it off for a year. Then I went back on the internet and came across this site offering sensible and safe advise. I am so glad that I went on to this website because I was advised to go to a well known clinic and I was warned off having a discounted treatment. I am now about to have my 5th treatment with the same clinic, I had to travel to Dublin to have the treatment, and I went ahead with nasolabial filler also as there is no other clinic I would trust having been so well looked after there. This portal information site helped me to avoid having a disastrous treatment like some of my friends have had. Three of my friends travelled across the border and had a treatment done with a nurse and while it was cheaper, they ended up paying more in petrol, and none of them looked great because unlike reputable clinics there was no review appointment at the two week mark, to top up or adjust their treatments. They were left looking fake and there was nothing natural about their treatments. The funny thing is that my own treatment which I had done in Dublin is so natural that everyone keeps remarking on how well I look, but haven't guessed what I've had done!

This site is designed to give safe information to those considering having Botox treatment in Cork. If you are considering undergoing treatment, then it is highly advisable to attend a specialist Clinic. You may consider travelling to Dublin to have a safe and comprehensive treatment, with a suitable two week post treatment follow up procedure or top-up.

As this treatment utilises a POM (prescription only medicine), be aware that it can only be administered by an Irish registered Doctor who has completed additional training in the area of Aesthetic Medicine.  It is ILLEGAL for Nurses to administer this type of treatment anywhere in The Republic of Ireland, and such illegal practice should be reported to the Irish Medicines Board, Earlsfort Terrace, Dublin 2.

Please be wary of beauticians offering anti-ageing treatments in Cork, in rooms that are otherwise used for beautician grade treatments. Some beauticians offer once a month clinics whereby a Doctor will fly into the country or visit periodically.  It is illegal for beauticians to carry out treatments involving the use of Botulinum Toxin A; these treatments must be carried out by a clinician only.

In the rare event that you experience any side affects, it is important that there is a practitioner on site to offer any advice for any post treatment queries that you may have after treatment. It is especially important to stress that new patients in particular will need a 2 week review after treatment to make any adjustments that may be necessary, most commonly required for the forehead.

Anti-ageing treatments are very safe once you make sure that you attend a specialist clinic where the treatment will be carried out by an Irish registered clinician, who has completed extensive additional training in facial aesthetic medicine.  

It is important that you only attend for treatment within a sterile, clinical setting. Ensure that if you have any questions post treatment that there is a clinical team at the end of the phone to deal with your inquiries. These pre-requisites are of course beyond possible if treatments are carried out within a salon as opposed to a specialist clinic.

Please beware of discounted treatments or salons offering discounted treatments.  The professional fee schedule for any POM is generally standard across the industry and as such, any clinics or salons offering discount treatments normally have compromised on the dilution of the product, which means it will not last the full duration of three to four months. Coupled with this, diluted product can cause the treatment to migrate, which can lead to a heaviness above the eye or, worse still, a droopy eye.  The occurence of this is very unlikely if you attend a proper clinic that is not discounting treatments or heavily diluting product.  Standard fees across the industry for 3 areas of Botox are €400-€550 depending on whether attending an Associate Doctor/Surgeon or a medical/clinical director.
